Edens has continually supported initiatives that strive to improve education in underutilized areas. Edens and his wife recently created The Edens Professorship in Global Health at Macalester College. The professorship will prioritize health and medical geography, infectious diseases, and health hazards involving environmental factors. Edens collaborated with Macalaster College to help create a program that combines traditional liberal arts with a new strategy designed to solve the World's current issues. The Edens Professorship is part of Macalester College's Step Forward campaign.
Research has shown that large sports teams can revitalize their cities and lead to substantial growth. When Edens helped purchase The Milwaukee Bucks, he was determined to keep the team in Milwaukee. To assist with this goal, Edens partnered with The Greater Milwaukee Foundation to pledge over $100 million towards a new basketball arena. The new arena is scheduled to host multiple sporting events, concerts, and other entertainment events that will help boost Milwaukee's economy.
Since becoming an owner, Edens has taken an active part in creating relationships with The Bucks' players and staff. Edens offers financial advice to the players so that they can enjoy their lives once their playing careers are over. During the off-season, Edens invites players over to his home to provide them with information that will help them make smart investment decisions. Some of Edens' other philanthropic endeavors include supporting The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, Martha's Vineyard Hospital, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and The North Salem Open Land Foundation.
Edens and his wife Lynn have four children.
