Mr. Shea was associated with his brother, Frank D. Shea (died 1929) under the firm name of Shea & Shea. The Shea brothers attained a reputation in designing Roman Catholic churches and institutional buildings, early examples of which were St. Brigid’s Church; St. Vincent de Paul; Church of the Holy Cross; Star of the Sea; St. Monica, and St. Ann’s, all in San Francisco, and the latter under construction at the time of Mr. Shea’s death.
In association with his brother Frank, who was City Architect of San Francisco for two years following the 1906 earthquake and fire, Mr. Shea was in charge of repairs to the damaged dome of the old City Hall, later designed the Elks Temple at Santa Rosa. Among his more recent works was the Aptos Junior High School in San Francisco (designed under his own name, and in association with John D. Lofquist prepared plans for the Chapel at Mission Dolores, San Francisco, and St. Patrick’s Seminary in Palo Alto, Calif. Following Mr. Sheas decease his practice was taken over by Mr. Lofquist.
