He entered Columbia University's Architectural School at an early age, and after a period of supplementary training in various New York offices, won a Traveling Scholarship affording him the privilege of eighteen months of European travel and study.
Mr. Fellows moved to Chicago and established an office in association with George C. Nimmons under the firm name of Nimmons & Fellows. One of their first important commissions was a large store in the city for Sears, Roebuck & Company, and following its successful completion the firm became the Company’s architects for many other plants in midwestem cities built in the early years of the century.
In a later phase of his career (1911-1925) Mr. Fellows practiced jointly with John L. Hamilton and Dwight Perkins, and during that period the firm established a reputation as specialists in school architecture. They designed many High School buildings notable examples of which were at Bay City, Mich., 1918; Manitowoc, Wis., 1922; and Evanston, Ill. In addition Mr. Fellows designed several buildings which were built at the University of Nanking in China.
