William worked as an Instructor of sociology at Oklahoma A. and M. College from 1941 to 1943. In three year he also held this position. From 1846 to 1948 he was an assistant professor of sociology at Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. In 1948 he became an associate professor, professor, head of the department at Graduate School of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He held this position until 1959. In 1955 William worked at the University department of chairman sociology, Graduate School of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He worked there for two years. In 1959 he was a Fred B. Hill professor of sociology at the Department of chairman sociology and anthropology at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, United States. He held this position until 1964. In 1962 he became a Chairman in Danforth Commission on Study Campus Ministry. He worked there until 1970. From 1964 to 1982 William was a Professor of sociology at Beloit College in Wisconsin, United States. In 1964 he became a Dean at Beloit College in Wisconsin, United States. He held this position until 1973. From 1968 to 1969 William worked as a Vice-chairman in the American Conference of Academic Deans in Washington, United States.
