Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

(This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

The next two Tables relate to the Import and Export trade of Victoria:--60 Imports and Exports of Victoria. Table XXVII.--Province Of Victoria.--Statement from Official Sources of the Value of the Imports and Exports, 1850--1852. And the following figures analyse to some extent the component parts of the preceding general results:--Table XXVHI.--Province Of Victoria.--Statement of the Principal Articles of Import and Export, 1850--1852. It will be observed from these Tables, that the Imports from the United Kingdom into Victoria alone, were, in 1852, three times as large as in 1851; and in the list of articles of import given in the last table will-be found articles of British manufacture, the demand for which we know to have greatly increased in this country. Nor is the Australian demand confined to articles of mere utility. We were told, a few weeks ago, of an order from a firm in Sydney for 50,000 pairs of patent leather boots and shoes, intended for the fulldress wear of the diggers and their wives; and we were also informed by the shippers, of several extensive consignments, to order, of gold watches, of the invoice value of not less than £20 each. The next Table (xxix.) is compiled from materials furnished in the Paper by Mr. Westgarth, already referred to; and gives a general view of the progress of Victoria during the last three years. Table XXIX.--Province Of Victoria.--Statement of Population, Revenue, and Trade, in 1850, 1861, and 1852. Note.--The £180,000 of ordinary revenue of 1851 includes £24,004 of revenue from gold licenses; and the £846,000 of ordinary revenue of 1852 includes £438,845 f...

NEWMARCH, William was born in 1820 in Thirsk, Yorkshire, England.
Statistician and economist, and leading critic of Peel’s Bank Act, 1844. His continuation of Tooke’s History of Prices to cover the period 1847-1856 was designed to refute the theories of the currency school which lay behind Peel’s Act. He denied that an increase in the volume of money in circulation had the effects that were alleged.
Employee, Director, insurance and banking houses.
