Excerpt from The Old Sun Inn, at Bethlehem, Pa, 1758: Now the Sun Hotel Almost forgotten, and by most unheeded, (in as far as its stone walls have been cunningly assimilated with the brick and mortar of the modern structure with which it is incorporated) - there still stands as part and parcel of the Sun Hotel in the borough of Bethlehem, - the first house of entertainment that was built by the Moravians within the limits of their earliest settlement in the Province of Pennsylvania. What of history the Sun Inn has made, or what of history made by others it rightly claims, it is the design of these pages to briefly rehearse. When the Moravians commenced the building of Bethlehem in the spring of 1741, and for several years subsequent, such was their remoteness from the routes of travel in south-eastern Pennsylvania, as to render the erection of an Inn altogether unnecessary.
