(The purpose of this book is to better acquaint the fisher...)
The purpose of this book is to better acquaint the fisherman, the student, and the general public with the different kinds of fish known to occur in Utah and to make available information, much of it new, on the distribution, life history, and habits of these animals. The importance of making accurate identifications cannot be overstressed. Hence, proper identification is the key to opening further the doors of knowledge. In order to assist the angler in identifying his catch and to stimulate the study of Utah's fishes, keys to the major groups and to the 49 species are provided. All but four of the species are illustrated, 19 by color plates and 44 by line drawings; in addition, the usefulness of the family key is enhanced by outline drawings of each major group. A glossary of the terminology used to describe and identify fishes is included, as are drawings that serve to illustrate some of these.
