Graduated from Yale, 1817, honorary Doctor of Divinity, 1827. Studied theology under Bishop Hobart, New York City 1817-1822. Doctor of Civil Law (honorary), Oxford (England) University, 1852.

Career

Ordained priest Protestant Episcopal Church, 1822. Assistant minister and secretary Philadelphia diocese, 1822-1828. Secretary House of Bishops of General Convention, Protestant Episcopal Church, 1823, 26.

Provost University of Pennsylvania, 1828-1833. 1st bishop Diocese of Western New York, 1839-1865. Represented American Church at London during 3d Jubilee of Society for Propagation of Gospel, 1852.

Co-founder DeVeaux College, Niagara Falls, New York.
