Educated at Friends’ Private School. Began study of art at Pennsylvania Academy Fine Arts. Became designer of illustrations, later scenic artist.
Pupil of Leon Bonnât, 1874, remaining at Paris 8 years and regularly exhibiting at Paris salons.
Returned to the United States, 1882. Established studio in New New York Professor painting, National Academy Design, 3 years Paints portraits, figure compositions and landscapes.
Regular contributor to American art exhibitions.
Still does some scenic painting. The Duck’s Breakfast, Un Jour de Conge, Pink of Old Fashion, Helena, Infantry in Arms, Love’s Ambush, and Pleasant Reflections are his most important pictures.
