In 1931, persuaded Canadian government to veto Lord Curzon’s proposal for renewal of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance. Author of view that “North America, particularly the United States, has ceased being virtually self-sufficient and is taking on the character and outlook of a great island centrally placed in the oceanic world.” Has written many articles on this and kindred subjects in Yale Review, Atlantic Monthly, North American Review, etc.
