Studied at Munich, Berlin, under von Hofmann, and at London, under Sir William Ramsay, 1890-1892.

Director Chilean Nitrate Committee for United States and Colonies, 1901-1926, agriculture consumption of Chilean nitrate in the United States increasing nearly forty fold under his administration, compared to increase of threefold in general fertilizer consumption in the United States during same period.
First to use motion pictures in presenting qualities and character of Chilean nitrate to North American farmers (leading woman was Claudette Colbert, in this, her first picture work). Chairman Committee on Survey of College of Agriculture, Rutgers University.
President Rutgers League of New Jersey. Author of bill which organized department ceramics in Rutgers College, which passed New Jersey Legislature, 1902, securing first annual income from the state for the college.
