Yagi Yoshinori was born on October 21, 1911 in Hokkaido, Japan.
Yagi Yoshinori studied at Preparatory Department of Hokkaido University in the early years of Showa but left there without graduating because of his involvement in leftist movement. Later graduated from Waseda University in 1938 with a degree in French literature.
Yagi Yoshinori began publishing works in literary coteries magazines Mokuji (Revelation) and Waseda Bungaku (1935) and became pupil of Riichi Yokomitsu. After graduating from Waseda University (1938) went to Manchuria. Works: Boshi Chinkon (Repose of Souls for Mother and Child), Somonka (Love Songs), Kuroshiro-no Kami (Black and White Hairs) and Watashi-no Sonia (My Sonya).
