Yahya Yakhlif was born in 1944 in the village of Samakh near Lake Tiberias in Palestine. He was forced to move to Jordan with his family in 1948.
Yahya Yakhlif studied Arabic literature at the Arab University of Beirut.
Yahya Yakhlif joined the Palestinian National Movement and became a prominent member of its National Council, and eventually the Minister of Culture in the Palestinian Authority.
Yakhlif has written several collections of short stories and a number of novels, including "Najran tahta al-sifr" in 1975. His "Buhayrah wara' al-rih" was written in 1997 and translated by May Jayyusi and Christopher Tingley as "A Lake beyond the Wind" in 1998.
