In 1979 John Houde received a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University.
John Houde is a certified criminalist and forensic scientist. He has spent much of his career educating juries, investigators, and attorneys in various topics of forensic science. His specialty areas include the analysis of narcotics, trace and fire debris evidence. Houde published his debut book, Crime Lab: A Guide for Nonscientists, in 1999. He was motivated to write the book to help readers understand the mechanics behind forensic science, and how it is used in the legal process. Houde, himself, has been called on many times throughout his career to appear in a court of law to provide his expertise in various criminal trials.
