Yakov Pavlovich worked in a rural bakery when he was only 10 years old, in 1902 he moved to Petersburg with his parents where he dispensed with casual earnings in factories, in a commercial port. He studied at a parish school but did not graduate.
After long wanderings in the factories of the city, Yakov Pavlovich acquired the profession of a turner, worked at the Putilov factory as a turner. Participation in the revolutionary labor movement served as an impetus for his creativity. The rest of his life he spent writing poems, publishing his collections of works in different newspapers.
