Yamaoka Magokichi was born on March 23, 1888 in Shiga, Japan.
Yamaoka Magokichi founded Yamaoka Engine Plant (1912) and later became its president (1931). He made an inspection tour of Europe and America (1932). Yamaoka Magokichi founded and became the president of Yamaoka Internal Combustion Machinery Manufacturing Company (1936). He merged Yamaoka Engine Plant into Yamaoka Internal Combustion Machinery Manufacturing Company (1941).
Yamaoka Magokichi was awarded with Ranju Hosho (Deep Blue Ribbon Medal) in 1951. He renamed the company as Yanmar Diesel Engine Manufacturing Company, remaining its president (1952). Yamaoka Magokichi toured Europe and America to inspect diesel engine industry there (1953).
