Yasui became a priest under the name Doton. Along with his father served Hideyoshi Toyotomi and participated in the construction of Osaka harbor. He felt that it was necessary to develop water transport. Yasui Doton then proceeded to dig a canal about three kilometers long between Higashiyokobori River and to Kizu River. Tadaaki Matsudaira, deputy casteilan of Osaka, named the canal Dotombori in Yasui's honor.
