Yasukata Oku joined the Imperial Army (1871) and became a full general (1902) and a field marshal (1911). He was made a Baron for his exploits in the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895) and a Count (1907) for his services as commander of the Second Army in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).
