Yataro Tajima was born in Gumma Prefecture in 1913.
He graduated from Kyushu University (1938).
He served successively as assistant of Agricultural Department of Kyushu University, nonreglar member of Kumamoto Branch of Sericultural Experimental Station, Agriculture and Forestry Ministry. Later he became member of Sericultural Scientific Research Institute of Japan Sericultural Society.
Published many theses on the genetic study of silkworm. Works: "Mosaic of Silkworm," etc.
He received Japanese Sencultural Society prize for his "Study of he Translocation of W-Chromosomes of Silkworms," and Japan Agricultural Society prize for his "Genetic Study of the Chromosome Mutation of Silkworms." He also received Asahi Subsidy for scientific researches (1951) for his study on the sexual chromosomes of silkworms.
