From 1926 also taught at Institute of Red Professor, Institute of Philosophy, Literature and History and Academy of Social Sciences, Central Committee, Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
From 1929 associate, Institute of History, Communist Academy. 1934-1949 head, Chair of Medieval History, Moscow University. 1936-1952 head, Medieval History Section, 1952-1959 senior associate, Institute of History, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
1939-1946 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. From 1942 exec ed, periodical Sredniye veka: 1944-1948 associate, Institute of Teaching Methods, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. Specialized in Medieval history of Western Europe, especially England. Concentrated on Medieval agrarian and social problems. Also did research on Medieval historiography, the history of the 17th-Century English revol and Byzantine history.
1949 criticized by Party for "cosmopolitan errors” and ”economics materialism”. Accused of belittling Soviet Medievalism and the importance of Russia and Slavdom in European history and dismissed from Chair of Medieval History, Moscow University. 1950 performed self-criticism and revised his textbooks on Medieval history.
1952 dismissed from Medieval History Section, Institute of History, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
Member, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Academy of Pedagogical Sciences from 1945. Member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences from 1946.
