From 1905 worked for Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party and taught in Ivanovo-Voznesensk and Rostov-Yaroslavskiy. From 1920 professor, Chair of Russian History, Moscow University and learned secretary, Institute of History, Russian Association of Social Sciences Research Institutes and lecturer, Sverdlov Communist University. 1935-1941 senior associate, Institute of History, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
Specialized in the history of peasant movements in 19th—20th-Century Russia.
