Takatori Yoha was born in a family of doctors in the Fukuoka Clan (Fukuoka Prefecture) in 1827.

Career
He took serious interest in the affairs of his clansmen. When the Russian menace hung over Japan (1853) he advocated several sweeping reforms for his people, but he fell foul of the clan chief (1860) and was put under house arrest. When his clan rebelled against the Shogunate (1864) he played the role of mediator in trying to avert a clash but was assassinated by pro-Shogunate elements.
