When his father died, Yoshihide Kishimoto took over his position (1830) and later studied music under Utanosuke Abe at Kyoto (1834), and after mastering the most difficult of music was appointed chief musician to Imperial Court. With the abolishment of the clan system, and when all musicians were dismissed, Yoshihide devoted himself to modernizing old music and merging ceremonial tunes with folk songs and originated a new style of music known as Kibigaku. Is the composer of many tunes, including Shiki-no-Keshiki (scenes of four seasons).
