During the Kencho Era (1249-1255) being deeply influenced by the teachings of Nichiren (founder of Nichiren Sect), Yoshitaka Kudo became his disciple at Kamakura, and when his master was exiled to Ito (Shizuoka Prefecture), he often called on him to offer sympathy (1261).
Later when Kagenobu Taira, Lord of Tojo (Awa), attacked Nichiren at Komatsubara and killed Kyonin, Nichiren's disciple, Yoshitaka Kudo rushed to the aid of his master and helped him to escape, though he himself was killed in the battle. Out of gratitude for his disciple, Nichiren founded the Nitchoji Temple at Amatsu and deified him under the Buddhist name Myo-ryu-in Nichigyokushonin.
