He originally graduated from the Sapporo Agricultural School.
Yoshitaro Takenobu founded the "Japan Mail" in Yokohama (1894) and three years later in cooperation with Motosada Zumoto began publishing The Japan Times. He edited and published the "Japan Year Book" (1905), while he was concurrently instructor at Waseda University. From 1911 to 1917 he served as an instructor at the Tokyo Higher Normal School and at the same time was adviser to the National Railways. He returned to journalism by publishing Eigo Seinen (English Youth).
