Yoshitaro Yamashita graduated from Tokyo Higher Commercial School (1892).
Yoshitaro Yamashita entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and saw office as vice-consul, first, at Lyons and then at London. Resigned from government service to become assistant manager of Sumitomo's group of industries (1901).
Later was secretary to the Premier in the first Saionji Cabmet and at the same time Kobe branch manager of Sumitomo Bank (1906). He was appointed director in Sumitomo Partnership Company (1918). Founded Kanamojikai (a council to study and reform the, Japanese alphabet) (1920).
