In 1869 Ogawa Yoshiyasu was baptized and became an elder of the Yokohama Kaigan (Seaside) Church (1872). Collaborated with Masatsuna Okuno in a translation of the Bible. He was ordained the first Japanese minister in Yokohama in 1887.
