He was born in Liuyang, Hunan, China in 1894. He is the son of Tang Chai-chang, one of the early Kuomintang martyrs.

Mr. Tang studied public finance in Keio University, Japan, and graduated from that institution in 1919.
Yu-jen Tang was a director of Department of Economic Research, Bank of China since 1921.
He also served as technical expert to the Tariff Conference in Peking from 1923 till 1924, President, Hupeh Provincial Bank and concurrently Director of the Hupeh Provincial Treasury from 1928 till 1929.
Mr. Tang was elected reserve member, Central Executive Committee, Kuomintang in 1931. He was Secretary General, Central Political Council, since 1932, member of the Legislative Yuan, Administrative vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, and for a time Director of the Department of Asiatic Affairs of the Ministry from 1933 till 1935. He was assassinated in Shanghai in 1935.
