Apprentice engineer, assistant engineer Public Works Department, Hong Kong, 1960-1964, engineer, 1965-1971, senior engineer, 1972-1977, chief engineer, 1978-1981. Government engineer Transport Department and Government Secretariat, 1982-1987. From deputy project manager to deputy director Territory Development Department, 1987-1994.

Principal government civil engineer Civil Engineering Department, 1994-1996. Director buildings buildings Department, 1996-1999, retired, 2000. Director Beijing-Hong Kong Academy Exchange Center.

Honorary sr lecturer, adjunct professor, senior industry fellow Hong Kong University, since 1983. Adjunct professor City University Hong Kong, since 2000. External examiner for Bachelor of Engineering honors course Hong Kong Polytechnic University, 1984-1990.
