Yu Tei moved to Kyoto where he visited the Onjoji Temple and Mount Koya (1622). Later he resided in turn at Gyokuzoin Temple in Nagaoka and Hosenji Temple in the suburbs of Edo (now Tokyo). He was appointed sixth head of Chishakuin Temple in Kyoto ( 1658) and the following year was made Bishop. Retired to Daiho-onji Temple in Kyoto (1661).
