Yuetsu Yanagi entered the Imperial Navy after the Meiji Restoration (1868) and was appointed director of hydro graphic department. He was promoted rear-admiral (1880). Rendered distinguished services to the hydro graphic department in conducting surveys, etc. Later nominated member of Senate.
Yuetsu Yanagi was well versed in national classics and skilled in composing old-style long poems.
