Yukei Takashima was a noted physician of the old Chinese school of medicine. For his outstanding contribution to medicine he was sent to the United States and Europe for further studies by the Shogunate of that period.
Yukei Takashima was born in the Edo Period but his exact date of birth is unknown.
After the Meiji Restoration (1868) he began practicing medicine at Yotsuya, Tokyo, and spent most of his time in an effort to restore the ancient healing arts of the old Chinese and Japanese schools of medicine. His works include "Products of Western Schools" and an account of his Western travels.
