Yukichi Terada was born on July 17, 1853 in Tokyo, Japan.
He studied the Chinese classics at Shoheiko (Shogunate College) and then German and mineralogy at Daigaku Nanko and Kaisei School (both are predecessors of Tokyo University) respectively.
Yukichi Terada was government official (1878) and was sent to inspect the educational systems in Europe and America (1899). Returning home he was appointed principal of First Higher School (1890), and then principal of Tokyo Higher Commercial School (1902). He founded Seika School (1905), which was renamed Kudan Seika Girls High School (1911).
