Yukihiko Kusunose graduated from Military Academy.
In 1879, Yukihiko Kusunose was commissioned in the Imperial Army as a sub-lieutenant of artillery and then sent to France for further military training. He visited Europe again as member of Soroku Kawakami’s entourage (1886). Later military attache to Japanese legation in Korea. He acted as Commander of 4th Army with rank of lieutenant-general (1904-1905). After the Japanese occupation of Saghalien was first appointed commander of the garrison there and then became its first governor (1907) and helped to develop the newly acquired Japanese territory. He was Minister of War in Yamamoto Cabinet (1913).
