After studying he worked briefly at the Nagoya Stock Exchange. Coming to Tokyo (1924), he started a quarterly magazine “Poetry and Poetic Criticism” which introduced surrealism to Japan. Became managing editor of the Daiichi Shobo Publishing Co. and editor-in-chief of the Serpent, a monthly published by it. Wrote poems and essays on new Western literature.
