Yukio Takeda was born in 1902 in Toyokawa, Aichi, Japan.
He was a student of English Literature at Rikkyo University. While still a student of English Literature at Rikkyo University showed writing ability and got his first story titled Bonbondokei (Chime Clock) published in a Nagoya newspaper in 1922.
After graduation (1924) he took to writing fairytales for children. His first full-length book titled "Blackboard Picture Book" was published in 1933. He founded "Building Blocks", a magazine for children in 1935.
During World War II he was drafted into the army and sent to China. He was elected to Musashino City Assembly and helped in the rehabilitation of ex-convicts (1948). He became editor of Musashino, a newspaper for schoolchildren, which was started in 1955.
