He was for a time a student at a dramatics school in Los Angeles.
Returning to Japan he produced his first picture "Boko-no-tameni" (For Alma Mater) for the Nikkatsu studios. In 1931 he left Nikkatsu to join Fuji Eiga (movie) Company, then in 1932 he joined Shinko Kinema, returned to Nikkatsu, left again to join Tokyo Hassei, Toho Movie Company and Shin-Toho Movie Company. His representative pictures are "Таіуo-no-Ko" (Son of the Sun), "Moyuru Ozora (Flaming Skies), "Ano Hatawo Ute" (Shoot that Flag), "Senkan Yamato" (Battleship Yamato), "Hanran" (Rebellion).
