Ing Z. T. graduated from the Anglo-Chinese College, Shanghai, in 1907. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Wooster, Ohio, U.S.A., in 1912 and Master of Arts from Columbia University, New York City, in 1913.
Mr. Ing was a professor of biology at the University of Nanjing from 1913 to 1919. He served as a manager of the Guizhou Trading Company, New York City, between 1919 and 1922. Ing Z. T. held the post of a professor of biology at the Nankai University, Tianjin, from 1922 till 1926. In 1926-1927 he acted as an assistant manager of the Shanhaiguan Engineering Department Works, Beijing-Shenyang Railway.
In 1927-1928 Ing Z. T. held the position of a secretary, Tianjin-Pukou Railway Administration. He also served as a junior secretary and concurrently chief of Telegraph Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during 1928-1929. Mr. Ing was a senior secretary and concurrently chief of Personnel Section of the same Ministry from 1929 to 1930. Ing Z. T. worked as a co-director of the Administrative Department in 1930-1931, director of the Administrative Department in 1931-1934 and later became a member of the Treaty Commission.
