Zen-emon Takasaki was born in 1838 in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.
Was invited by the Lord of Choshu. Clan (Yamaguchi Prefecture) to inspect conditions of his clan, and when a punitive expedition was sent to Ou district he accompanied it as engineer (1866). During the Seinan Affair (revolt of Takamori Saigo in 1877) he sided with Saigo against the government army and after being defeated at Nobeoka was sentenced three years imprisonment. After the expire of his sentence devoted himself to agriculture in Bungo, oita Prefecture.
