Zenjido Yoshioka was born on July 2, 1889 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Real personal name: Zen-jiro.
Zenjido Yoshioka served as reporter of Moji Shimpo (newspaper) and lecturer of Fukuoka Women's College. He began composing haiku (1903), contributing his works to Nihon Haiku magazine edited by Hekigoto Kawahigashi. Later became member of Hototogisu magazine and received instruction in haiku from its editor Kyoshi Takahama. Founded hailcu magazine entitled Amanogawa (The Milky Way) (1918).
From about 1935 figured as vanguard of the new style haiku movement advocating "Haiku without traditional season word." After the war extended his definition of haiku adopting freestyle and multiline forms.
