After studying surgery Zuiken Kurimoto was appointed surgeon to Lord of Kii. Later proceeding to Edo was appointed attendant surgeon to Shogun Ietsugu Tokugawa and given a fief of 300 koku of rice in Hitachi Province (Ibaraki Prefecture). At the same time he was given the title of hogen. After this his descendants took to themselves the family name of Zuiken.
