In 1891 he graduated from the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
In 1926-1930 Adam worked as a rector in the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
He lived in Saint Petersburg, designed educational institutions in many Russian cities.
In 1912-1913 Adam completed the construction project of the Voronezh Agricultural Institute.The ensemble in the style of the Petrine Baroque included the main teaching block, chemical pavilion, director and professorial houses, a power plant, a gas plant, a biological station, laboratories and other office and utility rooms.
The laying of the main teaching block of the Voronezh Agricultural Institute in the presence of Dietrich took place on June 23, 1913. Until August 22, 1916 Dietrich was the builder of the institute.
The work was supervised by the construction commission. In 1913-1917 98 meetings of the commission took place, Dietrich himself participated in many of them. The construction of the main teaching block was completed by the autumn of 1917.
