After graduate assistant professor, Chair of Pathological Anatomy, Moscow University. From 1878 associate professor, from 1880 professor, Chair of General Pathology, Moscow University. 1879-1880 studied abroad, inter alia, under Cohnheim in Germany.
1891 founded Institute of General and Experimental Pathology. From 1909 professor, Chair of General Pathology, Moscow Women's Higher Courses. Founded Institute of Experimental Pathology at 2nd Municipal Hospital.
1911 resigned from Moscow University in protest against policies of Education Minister Kasso but continued teaching and research work at Women's Higher Courses. After 1917 October Revol resumed teaching at Moscow University. 1920-1923 read course in organic pathology at reinstituted Moscow Higher Medical School.
Pioneer of modern pathological physiology as a basic discipline in experimental medical. Did major research on heart pathology, edema and dropsy, pericarditis, functional and anatomical lesions of the heart in coronary artery embolism, circulatory cardiac disturbances in pulmonary artery embolism, et cetera Specialized in the role of the nervous system in pathological processes.
Edited four volume of papers written at Institute of General and Experimental Pathology. Founder, Moscow Medical Social, Moscow Therapeutic Social, and All-Russian Endocrinological Social. Led school of pathological physiology which included such eminent pathologists as G.P. Sakharov, F.A.Andreyev.
