In 1953 Apollinarius graduated from the Medical Faculty of Stalingrad Medical Institute (now Volgograd State Medical University).
In 1956-1965 Apollinarius was an assistant, a professor of the Pathology and Physiology Department. In 1962-1965 he was a vice-rector of the Department. In 1965-1999 he was head of the Department. In 1967-1970 he was dean of the Medical Faculty at Voronezh State Medical Institute (now Voronezh State Medical Academy). Since 1999 he was a Professor of the Department of Pathophysiology.
In 1991 Apollinarius Nikolaevich became an honored scientist of the RSFSR. He was a founder of Voronezh Scientific School of Hyperbaric Medicine, which had a significant impact on the development of hyperbaric oxygenation in the country.
Since 1993 Apollinarius Nikolaevich was also a founder and editor-in-chief of the regional scientific and practical journal "The Bulletin of Hyperbaric Biology and Medicine".
