In 1868-1871 graduated from Nikolaev Engineering College. In 1874 Aleksey Nikolaevich entered Nikolaev Engineering Academy and finished it in 1879.
Firstly, Aleksey Nikolaevich served as Podporuchik in the 1st Caucasian Engineer Battalion. In 1877-1878 took part in Russo-Turkish War. In 1879, after finishing the academy, he served in Odessa and Saint Petersburg. For his courage was awarded a golden weapon.
In 1887, Aleksey Nikolaevich taught fortification at the Nikolaev Engineering Academy. He wrote many works about fortification including "History of the serf war". Since 1908 Aleksey Nikolaevich got rank of a Lieutenant general. In 1917 he retired with the rank of 4-star general.
Aleksey Nikolaevich made his debut in literature in 1874 as the author of humorous notes. He worked as a war correspondent. At the end of 1870, he published military correspondence in the journal "Pchela". In 1877 he sent reports of military operations to the newspaper "Novoye Vremya".
Aleksey Nikolaevich was interested in the culture of Spain: known as a translator from Spanish. After traveling around this country, he published the collection "Putevyye nabroski. V strane mantil'i i kastan'yet". He wrote fiction literature under the pseudonym Bezhetsky.
At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, Aleksey Nikolaevich also wrote "mysterious" stories, which described various supernatural phenomena that were modish at that time: deviations in the human psyche, spiritualism, astral bodies, ghosts, etc. In 1914 he released a collection of these stories - "Nevedomoye. Fantasticheskiye rasskazy". After 1917 Aleksey Nikolaevich continued to work as a fiction writer.
