He was born on 2 September in 1920 in Moscow city in the family of the railway worker.

From 1928 to 1937 Alexander studied at comprehensive school.
In 1941 he was a student of the 2nd Leningrad Artillery college.
Since 1951 he studied at Military Academy named after M.F. Frunze.
In 1940 Alexander was recruited to the Red Army. Before recruiting in the army he was a professional sportsman.
In July 1941, with the beginning of the war, he had to come back to Leningrad from the occupied Tallinn. By the Order of the People's Commissar of Defense # 0230, he was nominated Lieutenant title.
Autumn 1941, he was sent to Dmitrov (the town near Moscow) in a separate artillery division and appointed to the post of the commander of a firing platoon. Participated in the battles over the Moscow Canal, then in the winter offensive operation of the Soviet troops (1941-1942).
In 1942, Baranov was transferred to Leningrad again, to the Volkhov Front. Almost a year and a half, he was defending the city on the Neva.
In April 1943, he was appointed to the position of the commander of a cannon battery in the 17th artillery division, the 7th Corps of the breakthrough, the 27th Army of the Voronezh Front.
On July 5, 1943, the defensive operation near Kursk started. For the month Bardanov’s battery destroyed 15 tanks, several vehicles and more than a hundred of German soldiers. Till the end of July 1943, the Soviet troops started the offensive operation.
On August 7, 1943, Bogdanov's battery defeated more than 15 tanks, 25 armored vehicles, 49 motorcycles.
August 18-19, 1943, in battle near Ahtyurkha town (Sumsk region) Bardanov’s battery destroyed 5 tanks and crushed several German artillery batteries. Bardanov was injured. He spent 5 months for treatment in Sverdlovsk hospital.
In spring, 1944, he returned to his department. He participated in the liberation of Ukraine, Poland, Germany, and Czechoslovakia as a part of the 17th Artillery division of the breakthrough of the Reserve Supreme Command Supreme headquarters.
Durin the war, Bardanov destroyed 10 tanks and 15 armored vehicles.
In 1951, he graduated from Military Academy named after M.F. Frunze.
He was in service in the Armed Forces of the USSR till 1967, when he was dismissed.
After he worked as the Senior Engineer, Research Institute of Economics and Economic and Mathematical Methods of Planning
In 2000, he participated in the Victory Parade in Moscow.
In 2001, as part of the delegation of the Peace Foundation, once again visited Germany.
Lives in Minsk. He was the head of Minsk Council of War Veterans.
He died on August 19, 2011 and was buried on East Cemetry.
In 1943 Alexander became the member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
Alexander did sports, was fond of swimming, wrestling with A. Senatorov, played for the Moscow national team in volleyball, more than once played football with Starostin brothers.
