Ivan was born on November 8, 1919, in Mosary, Sennensky district, Vitebsk Region, Belarus.

He finished 9-year school. In 1939, he graduated from Vitebsk flying club. In 1948, he graduated from Republican Party School under the Central Committee, the Communist Party of Belarus. After graduation, he was on party work. In 1963, he finished High Party School under the Central Committee, the Communist Party of the USSR.
In 1939, he was recruited in the Red Army.
In 1941, he graduated from Engel’s military flight school.
In 1942, he was sent to the front. He fought on the 3rd Belarusian and the West fronts. The participant of the fights near Moscow, liberations of Orlovsky, Bryansky, Smolensky regions and Vitebsk, Orsha, Mogilev towns and liberations of Lithuania, Poland.
Till March, 1945 he commited 239 successful flights, among them 159 flights of intelligence of the enemy defenses. He pictured more than 27 000 km2 of enemy territories.
By the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR’s Decree, June 29, 1945, he was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union title “for the exemplary fulfillment of the combat assignments on the front of the struggle against the German-Fascist invaders and the courage and heroism shown at that time”.
After the war, Kaminsky continued his work in Air force.
In 1946, he became a member of The Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
From 1947, Kaminski was in reserve.
He lived in Minsk. In 1948, he graduated from Republican Party School under the Central Committee, the Communist Party of Belarus. After graduation he was on party work. In 1963, he finished High Party School under the Central Committee, the Communist Party of the USSR.
He died on October 6, 1974. He was buried on East cemetery (place #26).
A bronze bust of I.I.Kaminsky was set in Moshkany village.
