The beginning of his career is connected with the activity of K.S. Stanislavsky and V.E. Meyerhold (studio actor on Povarskaya in Moscow). From 1906 he performed in theaters of such cities as Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Samara, Kazan, Saratov and others.
1908-1909 he spent in Voronezh, where he staged a lot of plays: Anton Chekhov’s ''The Cherry Orchard'', Alexander Ostrovsky’s ''Poverty is No Vice'', ''A Profitable Position'' , ''The Bandits'' by Friedrich Schiller, Valentin Kataev’s ''Quadrature of the circle'', ''Uriel Acosta'' by Karl Gutskov.
In 1931-1934 Alexander Kanin worked in Voronezh. He participated in the creation of the Voronezh Theater School (1932). In 1948 he became the main director of the Ryazan Drama Theater.
