He graduated from the Voronezh Theological Seminary (1865).
Since 1867, he was a priest in the village of Sirotin of Ostrogozhsky district, since 1876 - a priest in the village of Marchenkovka in the same district. In 1908-1913 he lived as a widowed priest in the Mitrofanov Monastery in Voronezh. In 1913 he became a monk. He was an archimandrite, vice-rector of the Mitrofanov Monastery (since 1913).
