In 1972 Alexander graduated from the Moscow State Art Institute V. Surikov.
In 1982 Alexander Sitnikov received the Grand Prix of the 5th Triennial of Contemporary Art, New Delhi, India. In 1984 Alexander received the 1st prize at the 7th Biennale of Contemporary Art, Kosice, Czechoslovakia. In 2002 he received the State Prize of Russia for a series of paintings "My XX сentury". In 2003 Alexander Sitnikov was awarded the Silver Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts.
